The long-awaited moment had finally arrived – it was time to receive my reward. I was given the responsibility of choosing my first computer, a PC. This was during the era when fancy monitors and cases were becoming the trend. I remember a model with an eye-catching green color that resembled a robot, but it was quite pricey.
Accompanied by my eldest brother, I went to Liberty Plaza in Colombo, a marketplace known for its computer shops. After selecting a vendor, we were presented with various options for the processor, RAM, and other components. The main difference in price came down to the choice of processor: Intel or AMD. We opted for AMD, likely influenced by the cost.
Once we placed our order, we headed to their collection point in Wellawatte, not too far from Liberty Plaza. By the time we arrived, they had already started assembling my PC. After being offered refreshments, we were invited to watch the assembly process. Although I knew the theory, I had never had practical experience. To my surprise, the assembly was being done by a very young boy, whose talent I greatly admired.
I made sure not to miss the most thrilling part – the placement of the processor. It was a remarkably satisfying experience. Looking back, I can vividly recall the joy of that day – it marked a turning point where my true self-learning journey began, free of any limitations.
