A Reward for O-Level Exams?

The year 2001 was a pivotal one in my academic journey: the year of my O-Level exams. During this period, my focus shifted more towards my academic studies. At that time, computer science, or Information Technology as it was more commonly known, wasn’t a core subject. So, reluctantly, I paused my exploration of my favorite subject to concentrate on other academic areas. After the exams, I eagerly returned to pursuing professional courses in computing.

In our family, achievements were always celebrated with rewards. The most memorable reward I ever received was a mountain bike, a gift from my parents for passing my grade 5 Scholarship exam. It’s a cherished memory – I recall my Dad and me at the cycle bazaar in Borella, Sri Lanka, where I chose a shiny, top-range blue bike. Admittedly, it took some time to get used to riding it; I was more enamored by its appearance and cool features than its size!

Then the big day arrived – the O-Level results were out. All my hard work had paid off, and I achieved great grades. Reflecting on this, I realize that the positive experience of receiving a reward for my grade 5 scholarship was a key motivator for excelling in the O-Level exams. Naturally, with the results in hand, I was filled with hopeful anticipation for another reward. I had my plans.

In the meantime, while waiting for the right moment, I enrolled in another computer course – this time in 3D animation.
