As time went by, I realized that books were the most cost-effective and accessible way to delve deeper into computing. Given my aspiration to write computer programs and the scarcity of specialized courses available, books seemed like a promising starting point. Initially, my search for technical books was a new adventure; I was more accustomed to finding fiction.
I began by looking for books in my native language and gradually transitioned to English-medium ones. Although the details are somewhat hazy now, I distinctly remember discovering a book with a red cover in my native language. What made this book special were its numerous screenshots. It was all about creating a calculator using Visual Basic – a small book, but it was a treasure trove for me.
This discovery was a ‘wow’ moment. I later learned that it was published as part of a vocational program. I read every page with immense interest, enthusiasm, and a sense of wonder. I eagerly rushed to the end to see the final outcome: a visually appealing calculator. How cool was that!
While the book didn’t connect all the dots, it significantly fueled my curiosity, interest, and passion for creating computer programs. The most valuable treasure, however, lay on the last page: a list of book titles under the heading ‘References.’
Looking back, I realize that this was the moment I discovered my map, marking the start of my voyage in the search for technical knowledge.
